Jesus Prays to Himself

John 11:41-42

"So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.” 

Argument:

• If Jesus is God, that would mean that Jesus is praying to Himself every time He prays.

Rebuttal:

• Jesus says that He has given us an example to do just as He has done (John 13:15)
• In John 11:41-42 Jesus says that He knew that the Father always hears Him but that He thanked the Father out loud for the benefit of the people
• The Son can pray to the Father, there is no contradiction here
