The Biblical Basis for Inerrancy
- The Bible Is the Word of God
- The Bible is God Breathed
- (2 Timothy 3:16; Matthew 4:4)
- The Nature of a Prophet
- Claims to be a Prophetic Writing (Heb. 1:1; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
- Prophets are a Mouthpiece of God (Deut. 18:18; 2 Sam. 23:2; Isa. 59:21; cf. Deut. 4:2)
- The Divine Authority of the Bible
- (Matt. 5:17-18, 15:3-6)
- The Bible is “What God Says”
- Genesis 12:1-3 with Galatians 3:8
- Exodus 9:16 with Romans 9:17
- The Bible is Called “The Word of God”
- (2 Chron 34:14; Zech. 7:12; Matt. 15:6; John 10:35, Romans 9:6; Hebrews 4:12)
- The Bible is God Breathed
- God Cannot Err
- Therefore, the Bible Cannot Err
- The only way to deny this conclusion is to deny numbers 1 or 2
2 Arguments for the Bible Without Error
- The Argument From God the Son
- If Jesus is the Son of God, then the Bible is the Word of God (which cannot err.)
- Hence to deny the Bible is the Word of God is to deny that Jesus is the Son of God
- Scripture teaches that Jesus is the Son of God
- Therefore the Bible is the Word of God, which cannot err.
- References for Jesus being the Son of God
- Matt. 16:16-17; Mark 14:61-62; John 1:1; 8:58; Col. 2:9; Heb. 1:8
2. The Argument From God the Holy Spirit
- The Holy Spirit is the Source of truth and cannot be in error (John 16:13; 1 John 4:6)
- The Bible is an utterance of the Spirit of Truth
- Therefore, the Bible cannot be in error
- References for this Argument
- 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Tim. 3:16; Matt. 4:4; 2 Sam. 23:2
