The Father is Greater than I
John 14:28
"You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I."
Argument:
- If Jesus is God and the Father is God, how could the Father be greater than the Son?
Rebuttal:
- The Father is not greater in nature, but Jesus meant only that the Father is greater in office
- In the same Gospel, jesus claimed to be “I AM” or Yahweh of the Old Testament(Exodus 3:14)
- Jesus also claimed to be equal with Godin John 10:30, 33
- Jesus also says, “He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him” (John 5:23)
- Refer to the Jesus is God section of the Trinity section
