SALVATION BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH

" For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast."

Ephesians 2:8-9

 

"Through God's MERCY, He extends GRACE to all SINNERS that they mey have SALVATION through FAITH in Christ Jesus" 

Defining Terms 

1. Sin:

  • Disobedience to God
  • Causes all of humanity to die
  • Separates us from God
  • Destines each person to eternal separation from God
  • Separation from God is Hell
  • We need salvation from sin and its penalty
  • “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

2. Salvation:

  • The act of being delivered, rescued, or redeemed
  • Each person is born with sin inherited from Adam (Romans 5:12) 
  • We need salvation from the repercussions of sin

3. Grace:

  • Comes from the Greek word " Charis" which means "favor, blessing, kindness"
  • God choosing to bless us rather than curse us as our sin deserves 
  • It is God's benelovence to the undeserving
  • God giving the greatest treasure to the least deserving
  • Ephesians 2:4-5; Romans 3:24; Genesis 3:21; Hebrews 10:4; Genesis 15:6

4. Mercy:

  • Witholding a punishment we deserve 

5. Faith:

  • Reaches beyond mere belief into the realm of trust
  • Involves abandoning all human reliance on self-efforts and placing total dependence upon God's character, His actions, and His promises, as revealed in His Word
  • You cannot be saved apart from faith
  • The fundamental requirement for receiving God's gift of salvation is faith 
  • Not just a mental attitude 
  • "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1)
